Were you a fan of Poleng Lounge, the Filipino fusion restaurant on Fulton Street which closed in early 2010? Well, the folks behind Poleng are back with a new weekly pop-up event, and it kicks off tonight at Vinyl.
It's called Eastern Addition, and here's what it's all about. Each month, Eastern Addition will invite a guest chef to curate weekly Wednesday pop-up nights of regional Asian specialties at Vinyl. This month's chef is Tak Matsuba, former owner of now-closed Bushi-Tei (which, incidentally, was San Francisco's first Japanese restaurant to earn a Michelin Star). Matsuba is calling tonight's concept "Japanese Hard-Hat Cuisine." According to SF Weekly, that means "Japanese food for the working man," with dishes including corn hayashi and "Tokyo truck stop gyoza," and prices ranging from $3 to $11 per item. The event tonight runs from 6pm to 11pm at Vinyl, 359 Divisadero. Space will be limited, so if you'd like to make a reservation, email easternaddition [at] gmail {{dot}} com with your party size, name, and phone number. And if you can't make it tonight, don't worry -- they'll be exploring Japan, Burma, and the Philippines at Vinyl every Wednesday night (excluding holidays) through the rest of 2012.
