This weekend at the Harvey Milk Photo Center, a new exhibit will open exploring the Black Panther and counterculture movements of the late 1960s.
The exhibit, "Black Power * Flower Power," is actually two sets of photographs -- one a collaboration by husband and wife Pirkle Jones and Ruth-Marion Baruch detailing the Black Panther movement in 1968, and the other by Baruch capturing the Summer of Love in 1967. The show will include many never-before-seen works. "Black Power * Flower Power" will debut with an opening reception this Saturday, January 19th, from 1pm to 4pm. Guest speakers will include actor/activist Peter Coyote (co-founder of Haight-Ashbury guerilla theater group The Diggers), and Black Panther Party archivist Billy X Jennings. Admission is free, as usual. The show will be on display through March 23rd.
