It's the first Friday of 2013, and we've made a resolution not to let any news items slip through the cracks. Starting.... now!

Tonight, get the weekend started at the opening of a new art show at DSF (520 Haight). It's called "Urban Jungle: Deception," and features new works by artist Melanie Alves. Alves's "animalistic paintings and sculptures... explore the relation between our animal instinct and our deepest inner self." At tonight's opening expect the usual music and booze, plus a skeeball competition, from 6pm to 11pm.
Also tonight, Rare Device (600 Divis) hosts an opening reception for "Books Revisited" by Karen Kang. In her art, Kang "uses aged book materials as a foundation for intricate mixed media work." Tonight's reception runs from 6pm to 8pm, and the show will be on display through January 31st.
On Saturday night, Madrone (500 Divis) hosts the monthly Prince and Michael Experience. Get sweaty on the dance floor to remixed hits and rare cuts from two of our generation's biggest stars (depending on what you consider your generation). It's $5, 21+, and starts at 8pm.
This isn't Lower Haight specific, but tomorrow and Sunday, it's Bank of America free museum weekend. If you have a Bank of America or Merrill Lynch credit or debit card, just wave it around smugly to gain free access to the Contemporary Jewish Museum, the Legion of Honor, the deYoung, and a few other museums in the Bay Area.
And just an early heads-up -- on Tuesday night at 10:30pm, it's the return of the monthly Haightian Democracy stand-up show at Danny Coyle's (668 Haight). Free entry, $2.50 Tecates, $7 PBR and Jameson specials, and some laughs courtesy of local stand-ups. Did we mention it's free?
Reader Pamela B. informs us that Wing Wings was mentioned by Bon Appetit magazine recently in the article, "25 Food Trends for 2013." In the article's sixth trend (basically, chicken is cool again?), they list Wing Wings as one of six new spots in the U.S. "where the bird's the word."
Here's one list we don't mind being at the bottom of: San Francisco's 10 Most Adulterous Neighborhoods. The Lower Haight ranked 10th and Pac Heights was number one, according to the list's creator, pro-infidelity website (!?) AshleyMadison.com.
Finally, ease into the weekend with this sunny rooftop timelapse video of the Lower Haight. Bonus points if you can tell where it was filmed...
That's all for today. Now, go have the best Friday of your year. At least so far. And as usual, if we missed anything, hit us up at tips [at] haighteration {{dot}} com.
