The city might be a little quieter than usual this weekend, with so many technophiles heading to Austin for South By Southwest. For those of us sticking around, there are at least a couple of fun events in the neighborhood to report.
First, tomorrow (Friday) night, it's the monthly Push the Feeling party at Underground SF, featuring live sets from DJs Lusine and Pale Blue Dot, plus residents YR SKULL and epicsauce DJs. It starts at 9pm, and it's free before 10pm with RSVP as usual (otherwise $5 at the door). On Saturday, the Harvey Milk Center hosts a very different event -- a guest lecture by Emory Douglas, as he introduces a retrospective of his work. Douglas served as Minister of Culture and Revolutionary Artist for the Black Panther Party from 1967 to the early 1980s. The retrospective will feature a comprehensive collection of Douglas's artwork created for the Black Panthers. Saturday's free event runs from 1pm to 4pm, and the larger Black Power * Flower Power exhibit will be on display through March 23rd. So there you go -- music and culture, and so close to home. Know of anything else going on in the neighborhood this weekend? Let us know in the comments.
