The week of 1,000 events continues tonight, with a couple of very nostalgic items for your Wednesday night calendar.
First, Glass Key Photo (442 Haight) hosts Slide Night 101, starting at 6pm. Join proprietor Matt Osborne as he presents a slideshow of treasures from his own slide collection, followed by a dumpster dive into a pile of slides of unknown origin. Bring your own, peruse others, and get blissfully sentimental for times gone by. The event runs until 9pm, and if you miss tonight's edition, don't fret -- it sounds like this will become a regular thing. At 7:30pm, head to the Peacock Lounge (552 Haight) for a book release party. "Loaded Stories" is a memoir by Lower Haight resident Carl Hayes. As Carl describes it, the book "tours his California childhood and attempts to understand the secret histories of his two fathers, the first murdered while hitchhiking, the second a hard-partying outlaw immersed in the general mayhem of post-Manson Family L.A." Expect 70s-era food and music tonight to match the book's setting. There's no cover, and a few copies of the book will be available for purchase. So, a couple of ways to bask in the glow of other people's memories, and make a few of your own. Enjoy.
