Hold onto your hushpuppies, folks. In the next couple of months, Kate's Kitchen will be getting a new menu, new hours, and a new name.
Well, sort of.
Inside Scoop reported yesterday that the restaurant at 471 Haight has snagged itself a new chef and co-owner in the form of Thomas Martinez, who was formerly executive chef at Mission Beach Cafe. According to the Scoop, Martinez will be keeping Kate's daytime menu largely intact. But at night, he'll turn the place into something else entirely. The restaurant currently closes at 2:30pm every day. Martinez plans to add evening service (Thursday through Saturday to start) under a new name -- "Chaparral." Specifics of the menu are slim, but reportedly there will be some late-night specials like burgers and fries after 11:30pm. There will also be beer and wine, which will require the restaurant to apply for a booze license. And the space itself will get some unspecified upgrades. Supposedly Martinez is aiming for a mid-October launch for Chaparral, which could either be the name of just the evening restaurant concept or the whole shebang -- we're not entirely sure. Currently there's a barebones website for it, but otherwise there's not much other info at this time. We've contacted Martinez for more info, and will update as we get more details!
