Gardens of the Haight Part 3: Backyard Paradise
Today, a tour of a local garden.

Thanks to Sean, who gave us a peek at his geometric backyard paradise across the street from the Panhandle. The house is a six-unit building he's owned a home in for a couple of years. When he bought the property the backyard was an overgrown tangle of vines and abandoned shrubs. He cleared it out and uncovered a large wood deck, stairs, and plenty of room to grow things. Today, the space, which is about 20 by 40 feet, is an open, geometric layout that looks great from Sean's second floor unit and is a pleasant place to grill and catch some sun. The front of the building faces the street with a glade of ferns, a juniper plant, and deep green leaves. (Above.) Below, a table with chairs, potted hydrangeas, a rosemary and some succulents:
There's also a sundial built from salvaged stone and brick from the Victorian building that sat on the site before it burned down in the late 1970's. It sits on a salvaged stump and some lifting weights thrown over the fence by the neighbor when he abandoned his fitness regime.
The garden is also full of personal mementoes, family artifacts, scattered planters and personal touches:
Thank you Sean, and keep it looking great.
