Yeeeehaw, the weekend is here. And there sure are a lot of local events gunning for your attention.
Time to make some decisions, pardner.
Tonight, San Franpsycho and Surf For Life team up to host a special benefit concert at The Independent (628 Divisadero) featuring artist Ben Kweller. Tickets to the show will run you $25, with proceeds going toward educational resources in Central America. And bring your concert ticket to a pre-party at San Franpsycho from 6pm to 8:30pm, where you'll be treated to small bites from Little Chihuahua, beverages, free t-shirts, music and more.
Also tonight, 4x5 Gallery hosts what they've dubbed a "Vanity Party." In their words, "We had no idea what to call this. We have our own work up on the walls temporarily and didn't really want a show for our stuff so this is a party! Come have some fun with us!" The party runs from 6pm to 9pm at 442 Haight Street.
As if that's not enough for one night, it's another monthly First Friday opening at DSF (520 Haight). This one features The Dogs Are Barking, a collection of new paintings by artist Joshua Lawyer. There'll be music, booze, and the usual DSF merriment from 7pm to 11pm.
Tomorrow (Saturday), get yourself out of bed and head to Alamo Square for one of their regular park volunteer days. Enjoy refreshments (including coffee, which you'll surely need) while greening the park from 9am to noon with likeminded neighbors. If you're interested, just email park [at] alamosq {{dot}} org so they can plan accordingly.
Then at 1pm, you'll want to swing by the Harvey Milk Photo Center (50 Scott Street) to check out the opening of "A View From the Bridge." Photographer Joseph A. Blum has been documenting the construction of the new east span of the Bay Bridge for the past fifteen years (!) -- come see his latest black and white images from the project. The opening runs from 1pm to 4pm, and the show will be up through October 3rd.
Then meander up to Rare Device (600 Divisadero), as the shop hosts a launch party for HIPP & kirk. It's a "locally-based company that creates casual, yet elegant canvas bags inspired by beachside living," all designed and manufactured in SF. Peruse the bags while enjoying cocktails made with INNA shrubs, from 2pm to 7pm.
Finally, end your night at Underground SF, where Push the Feeling returns. Boogie to live sets from Devonwho and K-Maxx, plus DJ sets from residents YR SKULL and epicsauce DJs. This 21+ party runs from 9pm to 2am, and is free before 10pm with your RSVP (otherwise $6 at the door).
And on Sunday, rest. Anything we missed? Email us at tips [at] haighteration {{dot}} com, or leave a comment below.
