Lower Haight Leftovers: 11/16 Edition
Just because it's the weekend doesn't mean there's no news to be consumed. Here are a few little bites to get you through your Saturday.

This afternoon, Rare Device (600 Divis) hosts Christine Schmidt, the founder of Yellow Owl Workshop, as she celebrates the release of her new book. Bring your kids (if you have 'em) and nibble on snacks from Bi-Rite while you stamp your own holiday ornaments. Schmidt will be sharing crafty tips and, of course, signing copies of her book. This all goes down from 2pm to 5pm today at Rare Device.
Tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon, a Lower Haight-based symphony group will be performing a free concert at the SF Public Library. SF Civic Symphony, which regularly rehearses at the Harvey Milk Center in Duboce Park, invites you to enjoy a chamber music concert featuring Handel and Brahms, plus a brass quintet playing more contemporary tunes. The concert begins at 2pm at the library's Koret Auditorium.
As expected, Kate's Kitchen has now applied for a beer and wine license. This will be used by the new evening pop-up Chaparral, which is currently BYOB. No word on whether Kate's will start serving beer/wine as well.
Ever wondered about the pre-dawn routine of The Mill's Josey Baker? Well, even if you haven't, Five O'Clock magazine ran a story last week detailing the ritual that Baker goes through before he starts his long days tending the oven. (One fun fact: Baker, who is a baker, lives on Baker Street. No joke.)
Finally, a full trailer for HBO's Looking, the show that was filming in the Lower Haight for much of the past two months, has hit the intertubes:
