Today marks Day 1 for the new community garden at 780 Frederick Street.
The site, formerly the Haight Ashbury Neighborhood Council's recycling center and community garden, which was returned to city Rec and Parks custodianship earlier this year after an attenuated dispute, is now open for business. The opening ceremony takes place today at 10 AM, and includes "farm to table" cooking demonstrations, activities for children, workshops, and an unveiling of 40 new garden plots and an edible vertical garden, as well as a garden tool lending library. This will be the public's first formal look at the $250,000 facelift the city gave to the space at 780 Frederick, which was phase one of a two-phase project.
