Ugly Holiday Sweater Party Tonight At Social Kitchen & Brewery
Published on December 16, 2014
Based on the findings of a non-scientific poll, San Franciscans own ugly holiday sweaters for one of two reasons: they either possess a well-developed sense of irony or didn’t want to offend a well-intentioned relative.
Tonight, residents who embrace satire and good manners will gather at Social Kitchen & Brewery for an Ugly Holiday Sweater Party, an event staged by Inner Sunset Park Neighbors, a non-profit neighborhood association that works to " improve quality of life, build community, and generate pride in our neighborhood."
Ugly sweaters are such a holiday mainstay, the second Friday of December has been declared National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day. (At the time of publication, Hoodline could not determine which governing body made this proclamation.) In 2009, a sweater in the photo above was priced at $50 in a Mission boutique. Today, some stores only sell ugly holiday-themed clothing; customers may even purchase “Best Ugly Sweater” trophies.
