The Golden Gateway Tenants Association is hosting a Neighborhood Watch meeting on Monday, Sept. 21st, to discuss homeless issues and touch on safety issues at the Safeway grocery store located at 145 Jackson St. in the Gateway Apartments.
The meeting will run from 6–7:30pm Monday, Sept. 21st at Pier 1 in the Port of San Francisco offices' Bayside Room. You don't have to be a GGTA member to attend, but the meeting is specifically for Gateway Apartments tenants. Residents are asked to share concerns, suggest ideas and help create a network of neighbors.

Concerns about the homeless population and crime and safety issues at the Safeway have prompted ongoing discussions on social media and around the neighborhood, and the meeting aims to provide a public forum. Neighborhood Watch works with San Francisco SAFE, a citywide community crime prevention organization that partners with the SFPD to help people protect themselves from being victimized. There are no formal patrols; it's simply about knowing your neighbors and calling security, 311 or SFPD if you see an issue.
Speakers at the meeting will include Rann Parker, community liaison for the San Francisco Homeless Outreach Team (SFHOT) addressing homeless issues, a representative from the Gateway property management team giving updates on security, and a police lieutenant from SFPD Central Station to address community concerns. The meeting will be facilitated by Irina Chatsova, program director for San Francisco SAFE, and Sue Rokaw, the GGTA Neighborhood Watch liaison.
