It was 3 P.M. on a Monday afternoon when my friend and I decided to go on a food mission. We drove out to Brooklyn and arrived at the Bagel Store in Williamsburg in search of one thing and one thing only: the Rainbow Bagel.

Food fads are all the rage in New York City so you can imagine my disappointment when the cashier told us they were sold out. I would have shed a tear, but my friend informed me that there was another location close by that also sold the Rainbow bagel.
This second location, located on Bedford Avenue, was packed:

Entering the store was difficult, but the real challenge came later, when we had to wait on line for our bagels. I wasn’t too concerned about the wait time, but I was worried the store would sell out by the time we reached the front of the line. Luckily, this guy comforted all of us anxious foodies:
Every few minutes or so, he came out from behind the counter to give a little speech. He assured everyone that they would all receive a rainbow bagel (we were limited to purchasing three), and he also described the other, more unusual flavors of bagels and cream cheeses that were available. Some noteworthy ones include tequila bagels and cookies & cream flavored cream cheese, as well as the cragel – a croissant and bagel hybrid.

(Behold the mighty cragel.)
By the time my friend and I reached the front of the line, we had waited an hour. Was the bagel worth the wait?
Absolutely. Just look at this beauty:

It’s filled with funfetti cream cheese and tastes like cake. Who doesn’t love cake for breakfast?
