The Empire State Building is lighting up the New York City skyline tonight (February 8th, 2016). Throughout the year, the iconic structure changes color to recognize special occasions and holidays. Today, it celebrates the Lunar New Year by displaying radiant hues of red and gold.
This year, there's even more reason to celebrate. 1.1 million students in the city had the day off of school because the Lunar New Year was officially designated a public holiday in 2015.
