The first Friday of the month means the return of North Beach First Fridays, with a full slate of art, food and music events around North Beach and the Wharf area. Featured events this month include live music from local blues band Blue Room at Art Attack (2722A Hyde St.), a new display of paintings by artist Eric Von Berg at Sweeties (475 Francisco St.) and Ethan Cranke's latest paintings at the Canessa Gallery (708 Montgomery St.) As always, be sure to check First Fridays' website or Twitter for the latest.
This Sunday marks the 15th Annual Spring Dinner Celebration, hosted by North Beach Citizens. The fundraiser for the homeless, which will include an auction and Italian cuisine from È Tutto Qua (270 Columbus Ave.), started 15 years ago, with filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola cooking pasta for the community in the basement of Saints Peter and Paul Church (666 Filbert St.), where this year's event is also being held. Tickets can be purchased online.
Elsewhere in local news, the Examiner recently grabbed some slices at Golden Boy (542 Green St.) The former owner of the noted Little Joe’s restaurants, Franco Montarello, passed away on March 23rd at his home in Santa Rosa. And the GLBT Historical Society is looking to potentially designate LGBT historic districts around the city including in North Beach.
