This week brings a break from North Beach's usual lineup of music and comedy, with some unique dramatic, artistic and historical events to check out.

Starting on Thursday and running through April 23rd is Dominion, the new play by At Last Theatre co-founder Alan Olejniczak. The one-act drama, which centers on three women who learn the power of friendship and the dangers of sacrifice in a religious dystopia, is being performed at Fort Mason Center (2 Marina Blvd.) Tickets are available online.

Also on Thursday is the closing reception for Chinatown Pretty, the photography show produced by photographer Andria Lo and writer Valerie Luu, which captures the unique street style of Chinese seniors living in Chinatown. While the exhibition runs through next weekend, the closing reception is free to the public, and begins at 4pm at 41 Ross Alley.

On Saturday, roll on down to the Maritime Museum (900 Beach St.) for a historical and archaeological discussion on the Spanish galleon that was wrecked on the reefs of Saipan in the Mariana Islands, killing 300 crew members. Tickets are available online.

In other North Beach news, the Chronicle's 2016 class of Rising Star Chefs includes Tony's Pizza Napoletana's (1570 Stockton St.) head chef, Laura Meyer, who has been working with owner Tony Gemignani since she was just 16 years old. (Here's a story on her we did back in January.)

Of course, it wouldn't be North Beach if you couldn't point out an extreme example of the reality for renters, which, in this case, suggests buying 143 Ghirardelli earthquake sundaes is cheaper than renting a two-bedroom unit on Lombard St
