Latest McAllister Mobile Celebrates Pride, Pays Tribute To Orlando VictimsPhoto: Miguel Gutierrez-Ranzi

Miguel Gutierrez-Ranzi, who's known for the rotating collection of handmade mobiles he displays outside his home on McAllister Street, recently unveiled a new creation for the month of June, to celebrate Pride.

The body of the mobile took Gutierrez-Ranzi around three weeks to construct; 117 rainbow CD cases make up the exterior, and inside, 128 CD cases form 21 stars (best seen from below). At night, rotating lights highlight the transparency of the piece.

But the art installation changed on Monday, in acknowledgement of the mass shooting of LGBT clubgoers in Orlando on Saturday night. Gutierrez-Ranzi spent five hours making a black memorial ribbon out of 49 CD cases—one for each victim—to accompany his prior piece, and they now hang together.

We encourage you to swing by 1269 McAllister to see the work for yourself. If you feel inspired, don't forget to leave the artist a note in his little orange mailbox.
