Looking for a post holiday weekend pick-me-up? The neighborhood won't let you down this weekend.
After a successful movie night last summer, The Yard is busting out the jumbo-screen again this Saturday evening to kick-off a series of free evening film screenings.
This time, the feature film is 1968's Bullitt, the story of "an all-guts, no-glory San Francisco cop who becomes determined to find the underworld kingpin that killed the witness in his protection." It also features one of the most iconic car chase scenes ever filmed.
For a good seat, get there early: we're told 600 people descended on The Yard to catch the last flick.
Those who harbor a love for mixology and robotics won't want to miss the Cocktail Robotics Grand Challenge, to be held this Sunday evening at DNA Lounge.
At 5pm, a handful of robots and mad scientists are taking over the bar to wow patrons with their mechanics (and resulting beverages) in hopes of scoring $1,000 cash—and glory; lots and lots of glory.
Contestants will be judged on their “style and grace,” “efficiency of intoxication” and “full-assery.” With that said, "judges are capricious, fickle and final" and "extra consideration will be given for terrible ideas and Mad Science," which should make for a very exciting awards ceremony.
If high-speed pursuits and mad science don't strike your fancy, not to worry. We have plenty more weekend ideas below, and you can find city-wide listings at hoodline.com/events.
