A motorcyclist was sent to the hospital in critical condition yesterday morning, after a collision with a stolen SUV at South Van Ness and Howard.

According to SFPD, the suspect was driving a stolen tan GMC Yukon at high speed around 10am when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a woman riding a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was sent to the hospital in critical condition, and the suspect, an unidentified male in his 40s, fled the scene. The stolen vehicle was later recovered abandoned.

Tipster Jill W., a witness to the scene, tells Hoodline that she saw the SUV speeding on Howard Street toward South Van Ness in the wrong lane. When a car approaching on South Van Ness forced the SUV back into the right lane, the suspect “barreled” onto Van Ness, narrowly missing a car before colliding with the motorcyclist.

She also noted that the motorcyclist “went flying and ended up motionless on the curb,” while the SUV drove away on Division toward Duboce.

We'll share more details if and when they become available.
