Now that Election 2016 is behind us, we can return to the days when deciding what to do with one's leisure time was the week's hardest decision. Like Tuesday's momentous choice, our featured events are also polar opposites: get leafy, or funky. Steak or fish, folks.

No need to choose between the lesser of two evils; join author events, listen to free live music, pop into a wellness open house, or pick another option that will help you decompress.

The Pocket, Blackthorn Tavern, Thursday, 10pm

Did you know Blackthorn Tavern (834 Irving St.) regularly features free live music on Thursday nights, and that there's no cover? The Pocket (aka The Hot Pocket), which also serves as the rhythm section for the Bayonics, performs this week at the sports bar on Irving.

The repertoire of the quintet (sometimes quartet) spans several genres, "including Hip Hop, Funk, Reggae, Soul, Rock, Dance, and Latin," according to its Facebook page. Show starts at 10pm.

San Francisco Botanical Garden Plant Sale: Saturday, 10am - 1pm

The Strybing Arboretum—better known as the San Francisco Botanical Garden—is an oasis resplendent with verdant beauty. This weekend, plant aficionados may "admire and acquire" some young SFBG residents during its end-of-season sale, which also serves as a fundraiser.

Most of the plants on offer can't be found in commercial nurseries and are deeply discounted. According to the experts, this is the best time to take these home, since wet weather will "get your new plant babies established!" Aspiring plant parents should head to the garden's entrance on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
