With abundant donut options across America's cities and towns, it's not hard to find a satisfying treat near you. But when was the last time you had a truly mind-blowing donut?

Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top 50 donut shops around the country, using Yelp data collected in early May and our own special sauce to produce a data-driven breakdown of where donuts reign supreme in the US—and how Austin stacks up.

More than 7,000 U.S. donut shops have a rating of 4 stars or higher on Yelp, as this map we made illustrates. We dug deep to find the 50 best.

As it turns out, Austin is pulling its weight, with two of the country's best donut emporiums. The highest-ranking spot, at #4, is Gourdough's, a 1st Street staple, which has an impressive 4.5 star average with 2,592 reviews.

What makes Gourdough’s special? According to Yelp, it’s one of only 86 donut food trucks listed in the country, and depending on the day, it’s either open until midnight or 3am, cementing it as a popular late-night destination for locals, tourists and night owls alike. It also whips up a long list of creative donut flavors, including favorites like the Mother Clucker (served with a fried chicken strip with honey butter), Black Out (brownie batter, fudge icing and chocolate covered brownie bites) and Porkey's (Canadian bacon, cream cheese and jalapeno jelly).

Next on the list at #12, you'll find Round Rock Donuts. It has a 4.5- star average with 1,211 reviews, and is popular both for its donut holes and massive Texas-sized donut, which at 14-inches around and weighing in at two-pounds is the size of 12 normal sized donuts.

Although only two Austin donut shops made our list, Texas is well represented. Houston’s Karma Kolache landed at #34 and Dallas’ Hypnotic Donuts squeaked in it at #49.
