A buzzy, brand-new New American spot has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Maison 208, the newcomer, which officially opened on June 21st, is located at 208 S 13th St. in Washington Square West.
Situated in a new building on the corner that used to house Letto Deli, the new restaurant and bar is helmed by Chef Sylva Senat, who's cooking up French-inspired dishes in a hip, upscale space—complete with retractable roof. (You may recognize Senat from his appearance on Top Chef's most recent season, or from his time at New York eateries such as Buddakan and Dos Tacos.)
At his stylish new spot, menu offerings include crab cakes ($17), tuna tartare ($12) and chilled tomato soup ($8) to start, and entrees like the crispy salmon ($24), filet mignon ($33), the signature burger ($17) and more. Most of the specialty cocktails will run you $11-$23—though you'll pay a bit more for the gin and tonic served inside a custom terrarium.
With a 3.5-star rating out of seven reviews on Yelp, Maison 208 is getting mixed feedback from clientele so far.
Cat N., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 26th, said: "Stopped by Maison 208 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon to check out the space and have a leisurely glass of wine. Top to bottom and the space is gorgeous and the effort and attention to detail are clear."
Yelper Laura G. added: "Maison 208 is a solid addition to 13th street. The second floor is gorgeous. However we ate in for dinner and I wasn't that impressed with either the food or the service."
And Jason C. noted: "The upstairs bar has the potential to be fantastic."
With a price rating of two dollar signs on Yelp, you can estimate you'll spend $11-$30 per person on a visit to Maison 208.
