A new Scandinavian spot has opened up shop in the neighborhood. Called Alta Nordic Kitchen, the fresh addition is located at 7274 Melrose Ave. in Fairfax.

Alta Nordic Kitchen is the newest venture from chef and restaurateur Christer Larsson's (formerly of Aquavit and Alta in New York City). The new spot is billed as serving traditional Scandinavian fare: think gravlax (marinated wild salmon, coarse mustard sauce, dill on toasted brioche) and tonfisk (yellowfin tuna tartar, cornichons, capers, green olives, parsley, and mustard on a toasted country bread) for starters.

For the main course, there's Planksteak (planked strip loin of Black Angus beef, nordic pesto, mustard, cured tomato, with French fries) or the Kicking (wood-grilled Mary's chicken, mashed potatoes, in a roasted garlic-rosemary broth). (You can see the full menu here.)

With a five-star rating out of two reviews on Yelp so far, Alta Nordic Kitchen is on its way to developing a local fan base.

Robert V., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on August 9th, said: "WOW... Came here for a business dinner and I was absolutely impressed. I had no idea what Nordic food was nor what a Nordic Kitchen served."

Yelper Kaj S. added: “First of all and the location is great. It's right on Poinsetta and Melrose. The atmosphere is great and the interior design is beautiful. You will not find better Scandinavian / Nordic food in Los Angeles.”

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Alta Nordic Kitchen is open daily from 5:30pm–10:30pm.
