A new Japanese spot has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Bar Uerukamu, the new addition is located at 17633 Sherman Way in Lake Balboa.

Sushi chef Jun Uerukamu has been creating traditional Japanese delicacies for over 20 years, most recently as a private sushi chef catering to small groups. But now he has opened an intimate restaurant, with an aim to serve only the freshest product he can source.

Traditional sushi and sashimi are the stars here, so you won't find items like California rolls on the menu board. But there are, however, some familiar dishes, as well as some influenced by American fare, like the french fries with a mentaiko dipping sauce. And there's plenty of Japanese beer, sake, and soju flowing at Uerukamu to wash it all down.

With a four-star rating out of 11 reviews on Yelp so far, Bar Uerukamu has gotten a good response.

Andy C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on August 9th, said: "AN ABSOLUTE GEM! It's small, cozy and intimate. The fish is fresh, the small Japanese inspired tapas style dishes are beautiful and full of flavor."

Yelper Kevin H. added: “Tonight was opening night and we were not disappointed chef Jun has built cozy welcoming restaurant. Chef Jun's menu will blow you away with the freshest fish and his creative talents.”

And Marlon L. said: "New spot come check it out. Service is really great. Food is inexpensive and come at lunch time you get great Lunch specials."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Bar Uerukamu is open weekdays from 11:45am–2pm, and Monday–Saturday from 6pm–10:30pm.
