A new cocktail bar, offering pizza and more, has debuted in the neighborhood. The fresh arrival to Melrose, called Gesso Restaurant, is located at 801 N Fairfax Ave.
The location, formerly Paul Hibler's Pitfire Pizza, has been rebranded as Gesso after a two-month renovation, and is serving up a more upscale version of the previous iteration. Led by chef Doug Miriello, the "food borrows from his Jewish and Italian heritage, his East Coast childhood and Southern California cooking experience," a statement reads on the website.
The menu is "market driven" and will be frequently evolving, but expect to see an array of items served all day, like a potato leek frittata (ham, gruyere, chives, arugula), seared albacore plate (arugula and celery salad, peperonata, with charred bread), and Italian sandwich (cured ham, mortadella, soppressata, provolone).
The pizza oven is fired up at 11am, and features pies like the Blistered Cherry Tomato with scamorza, basil, parsley, and mint, or the The Sugo with meat sauce, fresh mozzarella, basil and parmesan. (See the all day menu here and the dinner menu here.)
Gesso Restaurant is now open at 801 N Fairfax Ave. Sunday–Wednesday 8am–11pm, and Thursday–Saturday 8am–1am, so swing on by to take a peek.
