A new Japanese shabu shabu joint, offering traditional fare, has debuted in the neighborhood. The newcomer to DT, called The Hon Shabu Shabu, is located at 210 W 3rd St.
"Shabu shabu" derived from the sound of raw meat dipped into the pipping hot broth of a shabu shabu pot. Guests at Hon Shabu Shabu choose from a variety of standard raw meats and veggies brought directly to the table. Add veggies to make the broth, grab a piece of meat with your chopsticks, and shabu shabu until it's done. You can individually customize the taste of each bite by using one of the provided dipping sauces, like soy sauce and ponzu.
The fresh addition has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 30 reviews on Yelp.
Vivian C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on August 8th, said: "I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed my meal here. I got the sukiyaki meal, and it was delicious! Lots of meats, and veggies (kabocha was my favorite) in a very flavorful broth."
Yelper Scott S. added: “We tried the beef and the seafood and both were excellent. The vegetables were very fresh and the service was great! All of the guys working there were super helpful and friendly.”
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: The Hon Shabu Shabu is open weekdays from 6pm–10pm, and weekends from 5pm–10pm.
