Whether it’s a fresh lunch option or a place you've seen getting ready to open in your neighborhood, great new restaurants have been popping up all over the city. We took a closer look at five of the up-and-coming spots.

New American and Cuban cuisines combine to become tapas, sandwiches and favorite entrees at chandelier-lit seated restaurant. Start with pan con tomate, vaca frita rolls, or sweet truffle edamame, consider a healthy salad choice, then move on to entrees like picanha or chicken tostones—or maybe the green apple and balsamic flatbread, or the croqueta preparada. You get the picture, and it can be yours for reasonable prices: appetizers and sandwiches for under $10, and salads, mains, flatbreads for mostly under $15.

Pine Mediterranean Cuisine

Boasting a robust menu full of Lebanese-focused flavors, Pine offers traditional Mediterranean wraps, sandwiches (both under $10) and platters including chicken shawarma, falafel and tabbouleh (a little over $10). There's also a dessert menu with items like pistachio baklava and maamoul, plates that are sized and priced for kids, and the yogurt-based ayran drink to wash it all down.

Miami has a lot of great healthy eating options, but you can go to the next level for a reasonable price at this new plant-only restaurant. Jackfruit tacos al pastor, watermelon poke, avocado toasts, grain or salad bowls and a deep purple sweet potato pie are some of the delicacies that even meat-eaters are having trouble saying no to. Everything but the flatbreads and bowls come in under $10.

Plomo Tequila & Taco Bar
Coral Gables

This heavily decorated higher-end Mexican restaurant sits you down for tacos served on wooden platters, sizzling pots of queso, skewers of elote, and tasty, boozy drinks. The tacos, which cost $4.50 per, also go above average in terms of variety—beer-battered shrimp, beer-braised beef tongue, lamb, and salmon or tuna tartar are typically on the menu. Tuesdays, they're only $3. The hefty tequila and rum-based cocktails range around $12 but you can get pitchers of sangria or margaritas for that price, too. Also consider the weekend brunch.

Chana Thai Kitchen

A spinoff of popular NYC-based Thai spot SriPraPhai, the sleek, modern restaurant offers both Thai food and sushi. Popular dishes include curry puffs, red curry with Thai eggplant, and khao soi, a northern Thai egg noodle soup. On the sushi side, there are a variety of creative rolls, like the Mango Tango with mango, tempura salmon, cream cheese, and avocado. Thai iced tea and iced coffee and Thai-style desserts, from doughnuts to ice cream, round out the menu. For the moment, no alcohol is served. Entrees range around $15 while some of the sushi rolls can go higher.
