Craving pizza? You're in luck: a new business has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The newcomer to Hyde Park, called Nella Pizza e Pasta, is located at 1125 E 55th St. (between University Ave. & Service Rd.)
According to its website, the new pizzeria specializes in Neapolitan pizza, alongside a "pasta-focused menu served in the spirit of a traditional Neapolitan restaurant." It's led by Nella Grassano, a classically-trained pizzaiola, and her restaurateur husband, Francesco.
On the pizza menu, expect to see pies like the cavani, with speck, sausage, and spicy salami; the ortolana, with eggplant, zucchini, and mushrooms; and the vesuvio stuffed pizza, with prosciutto cotto, spicy salami, and more.
On the pasta side, there are items like spaghetti al cortoccio with calamari, mussels, and baby clams, in tomato sauce; sarracino with pappardelle, mussels, pecorino, and black truffle; and rigatoni ragu with parmigiana in bolognese sauce. (You can check out the full menu here.)
The fresh addition has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 18 reviews on Yelp.
Isabella Z., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on October 1st, said: "Nella, we needed you. I love you. Thank you. Continue as is. Please stay open later and have delivery! You are near perfection and this is what's holding you back! Love you love you."
Yelper Taylor H. added: “Authentic Neapolitan pizza with a perfectly charred and chewy crust that would pass even my Nonna's taste test. The prices are also very affordable—$12-14 for a 12" pizza.”
And Shoshanna C. said: "I think this is a great addition to the neighborhood and once they iron out the kinks, I think it will be a fantastic restaurant!"
