If you've got New American fare on the mind, a recent opening is need-to-know. The new addition to Northern Liberties, called Mad Rex, is located at 1000 Frankfort Ave.

Mad Rex is a post apocalyptic-themed restaurant that uses pre-heated black lava rocks to cook its dishes.

On the menu, look for items made with seasonal and organic ingredients, like a thick-cut bacon burger, kabobs with housemade sauces, kale and seaweed salad, housemade pickles and more.

You can also experience a virtual reality lounge (VREX), "where patrons can escape the doldrums of normal life and immerse themselves in augmented reality." Select one of the restaurant's signature cocktails and have it served to you in an IV drip for easy drinking while you play.

The new restaurant has already attracted fans thus far, with a five-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp.

Winston W., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on September 27th, said: "Truly, it's as GOOD as it gets for a unique, supremely engaging and satisfying experience! EXCELLENT table service from Amanda & Erica, and our waitresses."

Yelper Kolleen E. added: “Fantastic atmosphere, delicious food, and friendly and professional staff. A one of a kind experience that you'll wish you visited sooner! Try the flatbread and sea salt ice cream—absolute apocalypse.”

And Brett Z. said: "A post-apocalyptic themed restaurant? I was more than a little skeptical. But the promise of a truck on fire outside on Frankford Ave and a "food first" experience made me just curious enough."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Mad Rex is open Friday and Saturday from 11am–2am, and Sunday–Thursday from 11am–midnight.
