Southern Spot 'Dixie Picnic' Debuts In Washington Square WestPhoto: Dixie Picnic/Yelp

Looking to chow down on some Southern fare? A new spot has you covered. The new arrival to Washington Square West, called Dixie Picnic, is located at 1306 Chestnut St.

This is Dixie Picnic's second location; its flagship store is located in Malvern. While you can dine in at this location, the café specializes in grab-and-go meals like breakfast sandwiches, boxed lunches, salads and more.

For breakfast, expect to see items like a pimento ham biscuit with spring greens and a soft scramble with caramelized onions and bacon on a brioche bun.

Bette's lunch boxes come with a sandwich of your choice, one side, a homemade deviled egg, and an "upcake" (more on that below) to round things out. Sandwich options include items like roast beef and provolone, "nutty chicken salad" with pecans and grapes, and homemade egg salad.

There's an array of salads on offer, as well as pulled pork sandwiches and a fried shrimp po'boy.

For dessert, there are upcakes, which are essentially a cupcake turned upside-down, with icing on all sides. There are a variety of seasonal frosting and cake combos to choose from, like brown butter frosting on apple spice cake, pumpkin frosting on yellow cake, and a blueberry pancake upcake with maple cream. (You can check out the full menu here.)

Dixie Picnic has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp.

K C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on October 6th, said: "Everything was fresh and very good! I will definitely be back. Deviled egg was excellent."

Yelper Brittany C. added: “My friend and I passed this on our lunch walk and decided to circle back around to give it a try. I love the idea of an all inclusive lunchbox, and at $10.99 a box, the price can't be beat.”

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Dixie Picnic is open weekdays from 7am–3pm. (It's closed on weekends.)
