A new sports bar has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The new arrival to West University, called Christian's Tailgate, is located at 5114 Kirby Dr.
Christian's Tailgate—which has four other Houston-area locations—specializes in American-style pub fare. It hosts a variety of weekly special events for diners, like Taco Tuesdays, karaoke night, steak night, and Sunday-fun-day with $1 mimosas.
On the food menu, expect to see items like a country-fried bacon burger with all the fixings, chicken-fried chicken (with a choice of sides like cole slaw or jalapeño mac and cheese), fish or shrimp tacos with pico de gallo and chipotle mayo, and a pulled pork sandwich with fries or onion rings.
For libations, there are over 30 beers on draft, over 20 bottled brews, and a variety of signature shots and cocktails like the "Christian's on the Bayou" with rum and orange liqueur and the "Mind Eraser" with vodka, Kahlua and soda. (You can check out the full menu here.)
The new sports bar has gotten good reviews thus far, with a 3.5-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp.
Jonathan H., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on November 7th, said: "So happy there is a location close to my work now! Had a great time there watching the World Series. It was crowded, but that's nothing crazy for the World Series."
Yelper Brittany N. added: “I was surprised to see that a Christian's Tailgate popped up & took over the old Amazon Grill location a few weeks ago. I had only been to the Heights location once."
And Wesley S. said: "So excited one is now close to my house. Great place to watch games and get some drinks and food."
