A new Hawaiian spot, offering poke and more, has opened up shop in the neighborhood. Called Poke In The Bowl, the new arrival is located at 515 Westheimer Rd. in Neartown/Montrose.

Like other poke eateries, the menu is based around a build-your-own concept. First, start with which style of meal you'd like: a bowl with white or brown rice, mixed greens, a combination of both, or a sushi burrito.

Then, choose from a section of sides like seaweed salad or spicy crab meat; add your choice of protein such as tuna, salmon, organic tofu, or chicken; then mix in vegetables like cucumber, jalapeños, or red cabbage.

Mix things up with one of the restaurant's signature sauces like house ponzu and spicy shoyu (soy sauce). Finally, guests can also add toppings like crispy onions, lotus chips, and roasted garlic.

Guests receive a free bowl of miso soup after a check-in on social media. There's also an array of cold drinks on offer as well, including Mexican coke, Aloha Main sodas, and Calpico from Japan.

With a five-star rating out of 11 reviews on Yelp so far, Poke In The Bowl is on its way to developing a local fan base.

Anna C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on December 2nd, said: "This place was great! They already know exactly what they are doing, even only after being open for two weeks! Loved the freshness of fish and the exquisite hospitality! Definitely recommend coming here."

Yelper Jojo B. added: “We really loved the food here. The owner was super kind and they let us taste a bunch of sauces before we ordered. The best part of the poke was all the great textures; it was like a party in your mouth!"

And Lane L. said: "Great poke place. Sushi is really fresh and they give you a fair amount for the dollar. Customer service is super friendly. Would definitely recommend."
