A new coffee shop and cocktail bar has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Located at 1053 E Whitaker Mill Rd. in East Raleigh, the fresh addition is called Hummingbird.

Hummingbird is one of two businesses PoshNosh Catering chef Coleen Speaks has opened in the Dock 1046 complex—the other is Whitaker and Atlantic, a private event space. It's intended to serve as a dual-purpose spot, offering coffee and cafe fare in the morning before switching over to cocktails in the evening.

The early-bird crowd will find butterscotch sticky buns, chia seed pudding, ricotta fritters, and a full selection of coffee drinks, as well as cocktails like Bloody Marys and micheladas. At lunch, the selection segues into sandwiches and salads, including seafood po'boys and grilled cheese with apricot jam.

To pair with the selection of evening cocktails, Speaks, an alum of Bloomsbury Bistro and Enoteca Vin, offers small plates like fried quail, avocado toast, gumbo and garam masala wings.

With a 4.5-star rating out of 12 reviews on Yelp so far, Hummingbird has already made a good impression.

Alison B., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on December 16th, said: "I love this place. For a while I've been wanting a place where I can come get a fantastic breakfast in the morning and an amazing whiskey sour at night. The space is lovely and the bar is warm."

Yelper Ann H. added: “I absolutely love all the food I've ever had from Posh Nosh catering service. So, to find out they were doing the food for a new cafe and cocktail bar had me sold immediately."

And Shannon M. said: "Delicious and unique! We tried a range of dinner plates: the shrimp dip, avocado toast, oysters, quail, and and chicken wings. Everything was fantastic."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. Hummingbird is open Monday–Saturday from 8am–midnight. (It's closed on Sunday.)
