A new spot to score ice cream, gelato and more has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The newcomer to Greenwich Village, called Il Laboratorio Del Gelato, is located at 56 University Place (between 10th & 9th streets).

The second outpost of this popular creamery—which has its flagship store at 188 Ludlow St., on the Lower East Side—continues to feature a rotating selection from over 300 flavors of Italian-style gelato and sorbetto developed by chefs and caterers in its "custom 'lab.'" (The selection varies by day, but you can check out a list of all 300-plus flavors here.)

On the menu, guests can choose from up to four flavors to be served in a cup, sugar cone, or waffle cone, along with up to three toppings, like almonds, caramel sauce, chocolate chunks, or rainbow sprinkles.

There's a build-your-own sundae option, as well as signature sundaes like the "Grande," with vanilla, cherry, pistachio, and mocha gelato topped with hot fudge, bananas, meringue, and whipped cream.

There are also cakes on offer, like "Il Lab," with layers of cherry, mascarpone, dark chocolate, whole cherries and meringue covered in vanilla.

Rounding things out are malted shakes, smoothies, floats and gelato sandwiches.

There's just one review on Yelp thus far, which gives it five stars.

Mike C., who was the first Yelper to review the new spot on December 15th, said: "The first location to open after several years of the first shop being successful on the Lower East Side just opened across the street from Amorino. This is definitely the superior option."

Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Il laboratorio del gelato is open Friday and Saturday from noon–midnight, and Sunday–Thursday from noon–10pm.
