A new sushi bar and Japanese spot has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Tuna Bar, the fresh arrival is located at 205 Race St. in Old City.
This new spot comes from owner and chef Ken Sze, who learned the sushi trade at his family's restaurant, Yokohama, in Maple Shade, New Jersey. Sze and his wife also own and run Geisha House, a boutique clothier in the neighborhood.
The menu is billed as traditional with contemporary twists, so expect to see a variety of sushi mainstays, traditional sashimi, and unique creations such as Kobe beef nigiri, tuna tartare, and tuna crudo.
With a five-star rating out of 13 reviews on Yelp so far, the new sushi bar has already made a good impression.
Mallory S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on December 5th, said: "I had dinner at Tuna Bar less than one week after their opening and was extremely impressed! Upon arrival I was glad I had made an OpenTable reservation, as every table was reserved."
Yelper Mark G. added: “For a restaurant which just opened, they are doing very well. Sushi is definitely to a high standard, as are the cocktails."
And Michael K. said: "First off, I'll have to admit to having a bias since my wife and I frequent their sister restaurant in Maple Shade, called Yokohama. That said, Tuna Bar is a tremendously hip new addition."
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Tuna Bar is open Friday and Saturday from 5pm–11pm, and Sunday–Thursday from 5pm–10pm.
