A new cafe has opened up shop in the neighborhood. Located at 1318 Telephone Rd. in the East End, the newcomer is called Coral Sword.

This newcomer is the brainchild of Houston native and San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence, along with David Buehrer of local roaster Greenway Coffee.

In addition to offering a variety of traditional café fare and espresso drinks, there's a large selection of board games for customers to peruse and enjoy while hanging out. There's also a library of graphic novels and comic books to browse, with some available for purchase, too.

For coffee drinks, expect to see a variety of popular mainstays, such as Americanos, cappuccinos, lattes, and mochas. There's a healthy selection of teas on offer as well, like turmeric chai, jasmine pearl, and nitro Thai tea.

If you're in the mood for a bite to eat, expect to see five varieties of pizza, snacks like chicken fingers and breakfast tacos, and Morningstar Doughnuts delivered daily. There are vegan and gluten-free options, too.

With a 4.5-star rating out of seven reviews on Yelp so far, Coral Sword has been warmly received by patrons.

Marcus M., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on February 7th, said: "It's wonderful to see this coffee shop and game locale pop up in the East End. Pouring Greenway coffee and serving up Morningstar donuts in addition to other noshes (breakfast tacos, etc.—which I have yet to try)."

Yelper Mark B. added: “There is quite a bit of buzz in my circle of friends about the opening of Coral Sword and was very interested to check it out. I give them an A+ for concept.”

And Jackie K. said: "We tried Coral Sword on its opening weekend, and it was good. I would definitely go there for the coffee (which was very good) and for the awesomely fun selection of board games and cards."

Interested? Stop by to welcome the new business to the neighborhood. Coral Sword is open Monday–Saturday from 7am–midnight, and Sunday from 10am–10pm.
