If you've got Mexican on the mind, a recent opening is need-to-know. Called La Roca, the new addition is located at 4161 Main St. in Manayunk.
This newcomer—located in the former Union Taco space, which closed late last year—specializes in elevated Mexican-style street food and tequila, according to the restaurant's website.
On the extensive menu, expect to see starters and pub fare like the "Disco Papas Fritas," French fries topped with gravy, Mexican cheese and bacon; wonton-wrapped shrimp over pico de gallo and sliced avocado; and fried pork shank in chipotle barbecue and buttermilk ranch.
Switching over to entrées, look for dishes such as a teriyaki skirt steak and cheese burrito with fried rice and egg; ahi tuna tartare with onion, jalapeños and cilantro; and chorizo-stuffed chicken with sweet corn purée and sautéed peppers.
There are also 10 different taco variations on offer, along with a selection of tortas (Mexican-style sandwiches), burgers and salads. (You can check out the full menu here.)
The new addition has gotten an enthusiastic response thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of 11 reviews on Yelp.
Gina B., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on March 3rd, said: "If you love good quality tacos and margs, stop what you're doing and check this place out! We ordered the sweet pork tacos and the steak tacos. The pork was extremely juicy and the pineapple complemented the dish really well."
Yelper Ashley H. added: “Who doesn't love tacos and tequila?! But seriously this place is great. The food is beyond your average taco joint. Expect complex flavors and a very creative menu! Mushroom chicharrones?! Chicken carnitas?! Awesome!”
Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. La Roca is open daily from 11am–2am.
