Looking for a modern take on American comfort food? The Angry Pig Tavern,  at 2039 W. North Ave. (near Hoyne Avenue) in Wicker Park, has you covered.

After Angry Pig Owner Mark Hemmer lost the lease for downtown's Bridge House Tavern, he headed north to Wicker Park and started his latest venture in the space most recently occupied by Trench.

“It’ll be very similar to Bridge House where if you want to come in and get steak frites and a nice entree and have dinner you can do that," Hemmer tells Eater Chicago. "If you want to sit at the bar and have a burger you can do that too.”

The casual dining space has a laid-back vibe with neutral colors, hanging starburst lights, and banquette, booth and table seating.

On the menu, look for shareable and small plates like ceviche and tavern frites with bacon and truffle aioli, and a variety of sandwiches such as the Porchetta (pork roast stuffed with Italian sausage on a baguette). Tavern entrees include surf and turf with rack of lamp and scallops and pasta bolognese.

Angry Pig also has 10 craft brews on tap, plus a selection of wines and cocktails. (Full menu available on website.)

Angry Pig Tavern has proven popular thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of five reviews on Yelp.

John H., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on April 5, said, "The food was top-notch, with a huge list of shared plates that were a perfect mix of pub grub and fine dinning. Entrees were hearty portions and very well executed. Huge round bar offered ample casual seating, with an adjacent dinning room for a more formal dinner."

And Christie N. said, "Beautiful new space. Our group enjoyed handcrafted cocktails and great food. The bar area is awesome. The staff was super friendly, and made great drink and food suggestions."
