In search of a new favorite Ethiopian spot?

Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top Ethiopian restaurants around Dallas, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to venture next time you're on the hunt for Ethiopian cuisine.

1. Yenat Guada Ethiopian Cuisine

Topping the list is Yenat Guada Ethiopian Cuisine. Located at 7015 Greenville Ave. in Northeast Dallas, this Ethiopian spot is the highest-rated Ethiopian restaurant in Dallas, boasting 4.5 stars out of 81 reviews on Yelp. Popular dishes include the vegetable combo — which includes the red lentil stew, split peas yellow stew, chickpeas stew and lightly cooked collard greens — and doro wot, chicken leg simmered in onion, berbere and spiced butter.

2. Arif Cafe

Next up is Northeast Dallas's Arif Cafe, situated at 8367 Park Lane. With 4.5 stars out of 75 reviews on Yelp, this Ethiopian spot has proven to be a local favorite. Look for offerings like the beef tibs and vegetable combo, lentil sambusa and fish gulash with injera.

"I've been to at least five other Ethiopian restaurants and I have to say this is the one to beat," said one Yelp reviewer. "This is well worth the five stars!"

3. Desta Ethiopian Restaurant

Northeast Dallas's Desta Ethiopian Restaurant, located at 12101 Greenville Ave., Suite 105, is another top choice, with Yelpers giving it four stars out of 202 reviews.

Desta offers an all-day Ethiopian breakfast, including firfir, shredded injera with spicy berbere sauce. For heartier fare, look for the kitfo, freshly minced beef or tuna with mitmita powder and ayeb cheese, or rib-eye beef tibs marinated in a house spice blend. 

4. Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant

Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant, an Ethiopian spot in Northeast Dallas, is another go-to, with four stars out of 104 Yelp reviews. Head over to 9191 Forest Lane, Suite 2, to try the trytibs, seasoned bits of of meat that have been sautéed in Ethiopian butter, or the yebeg wot, marinated lamb cooked in red wine and braised in Ethiopian red pepper sauce. 

5. Shebelle Ethiopian Cuisine & Bar

Over at 17194 Preston Rd., Suite 140 in North Dallas, check out Shebelle Ethiopian Cuisine & Bar, which has earned five stars out of 13 reviews on Yelp. The restaurant specializes in elevated takes on Ethiopian cuisine and offers a full bar. Look for the dinner combo for two, which comes with wine, dessert and Ethiopian coffee.
