A new brewery, offering sandwiches and more, has opened up shop in the Berkeley neighborhood. Called The Grateful Gnome Sandwich Shoppe & Brewery, the newcomer is located at 4369 Stuart St..
Located in a former antiques shop, owners Dan Appell and Bess Dougherty modeled the spot after the deli Appell's father ran in Parsippany, New Jersey, Westword reports.
Approximately 50 different sandwiches are offered, all packed with fresh ingredients including meat sliced right at the counter. Try the Sloppy Gnome Club with turkey, beef and swiss or a classic cheesesteak (always a favorite).
Thirsty? This sandwich shop doubles as a brewery, with 12 beers on tap including the rotating C Squared Cider and Westbound & Down Double IPA.

The new brewery has received good reviews thus far, with a four-star rating out of nine reviews on Yelp.
Jon D., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on April 12, said: "OMG! The Gnome is finally open!!! First—there is nothing like this place. Now there is a fabulous, hand crafted restaurant on the Tennyson strip that has it all! Great atmosphere, great people, great food, great beer, and a very grateful gnome running the show!"
And Bill G. said: "Long-awaited opening day and the Gnome did not disappoint. The inside space is unique with a very wide open dining area, patio space, and a long bar. Sandwiches are huge, enough for two meals. Limited menu to start but amazing fresh sliced Boars Head meats and cheeses and veggies combined with fresh bread made a killer hoagie. The house IPA Giggity was smooth with a great finish for a seven percent brew. Great space, great Jersey-style sandwiches, and great beer."
