If you're in the mood for a creamy frozen dessert, Arctic Scoop in East Passyunk has you covered. Located at 1812 East Passyunk Ave., the newcomer serves up ice cream and frozen yogurt with an Asian twist.
Bored of the classic sugar cone? Arctic Scoop wraps its treats in golden Hong Kong-style egg waffles (gai daan zai)—"crispy on the outside and soft and sweet inside"—similar to those the owners ate growing up in New York City's Chinatown, the shop explains on its Facebook page.
Green tea, mocha and lychee lavender ice creams share space with traditional favorites like cookies 'n' cream. The Thai coconut ice cream is served in the shell and topped with sliced fruits and chunks of coconut. Behind the counter, the wall is lined with a wide array of toppings, from marshmallows to rainbow mochi (sweet rice cakes).
Arctic Scoop has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a five-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp.
Jen Z., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on March 29th, said, "I've been wanting to try this place for a long time now. Their crazy-cute signature coconut ice cream bowl was incredibly delicious and best of all it was super refreshing! Is a must try for all coconut lovers."
Yelper Vanny K. added, “I had the chocolate egg waffle with green tea ice cream and it was one of the most delicious desserts I have had. ...Another great thing about this place is that they have unlimited toppings so you can pile up as many as you want. Staff was friendly and courteous, and will definitely come back to try other flavors.”
