Craving Taiwanese-style treats? You're in luck: BlackBall Desserts has opened its doors in the International District, taking over the former space of Gossip Espresso & Tea.

The international chain that was founded in 2006 specializes in shaved ice, milk tea and grass jelly desserts. Located at 651 S. King St. (at Maynard Avenue), the new addition touts its organic and natural ingredients.

On the menu, look for standouts like the freshly brewed matcha milk tea, winter melon tea with lemon, lychee green tea, shaken iced tea with cheese and a variety of smoothies.

BlackBall Desserts has gotten off to a solid start thus far, with a four-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp.

"It looks like Gossip — they even have the same Taiwan photo mural up. The one difference is this feels straight out of Taiwan," said Jessica L., who reviewed the new spot on May 1. "I got an aiyu-based dessert with boba and sweet potato. This was totally refreshing! The boba is perfect and chewy."

And Brenda L. said, "I got the passion fruit green tea with boba and it was just as tasty as their other location in Washington! I'm excited to come back to try their desserts."

Intrigued? Stop in to try it for yourself. BlackBall Desserts is open from 11 a.m.–10 p.m. on Monday-Thursday and Sunday and 11 a.m.–midnight on Friday and Saturday.
