A sleek, two-level cocktail bar and restaurant has debuted in Wrigleyville. Located at 3632 N. Clark St. inside the boutique Hotel Zachary, Mordecai offers upscale bar food plus limited-edition spirits, craft cocktails and local beers.

The restaurant, named after early 20th-century pitcher Mordecai Brown, exudes a midcentury modern vibe. And so do the cocktails. The Four Leaf Clover fuses 10-year-old malted Irish whiskey, Alpine amaro, crème de menthe and green Chartreuse.

If you’re looking for snacks, think gin-marinated olives, crab puffs with spicy-sweet chili sauce and cheese fries with pickled shallots. On the game-day and regular menus, look for offerings like beer-battered cod with house pickles, roast chicken with charred broccolini, grilled hanger steak and small plates of roasted bone marrow and grilled octopus. (See the full menu here.)

With a 4.5-star rating out of 12 reviews on Yelp so far, the new bar and restaurant is on its way to developing a local fan base.

Rob S., who reviewed the new restaurant on May 4, said, "An upscale spot across from Wrigley Field, it almost feels out of place. This is the place to go for cocktails, not the usual pre- and postgame drink-to-get-drunk spots. They've got a deep, detailed list of spirits and cocktails, and our server was very knowledgable."

And Gina V. said, "This is a very beautiful small restaurant right across the street from the home of the Cubs. The food is amazing and very refreshing."
