A new organic grocery store has opened its doors in the fast-changing R Street Corridor.
The fresh arrival to downtown, from the owners of the Raley's chain of supermarkets, is called Market 5-One-5. It's located at 915 R St.
Market 5-One-5 is focused on offering sustainable, organic and minimally processed foods from its large deli and take-out section, bakery and in-house butcher.
At about one-fifth the size of most Raley's locations, the 11,000-square-foot space is the first major grocery store to operate downtown in decades, the Sacramento Bee reports. Along with pre-made foods, it serves wine, beer and kombucha, which can be enjoyed in a small outdoor seating area.
With a 4.5-star rating out of 20 reviews on Yelp so far, the new organic market is on its way to developing a local fan base.
"The whole store is one big hug," wrote Linda C., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 26. "Well-merchandised in practical ways for shoppers, beautiful meat and fish ... Finally one store where I don't have to weed through stuff I never want or need."
Yelper Joseph R. added, “It's great to work so close to a fabulous market with healthy foods, great produce, bomb beers and more ... Its sandwiches are incredible, its design also impressive.”
And Kellmerr M. said, "The store reminds me of a cross between Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. The products are pricey, but appear to be of good quality."
Swing on by to take a peek for yourself: Market 5-One-5 is open from 7 a.m.–10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 7 a.m.–midnight on Friday and Saturday.
