If you're craving Indian but short on time, a recent fast-casual Indian fusion spot is need-to-know. The fresh arrival to Chinatown, called Spice 6 Modern Indian, is located at 740 Sixth St. NW, the third location for the Maryland-based chain.

Naan pizza, naan wraps, rice bowls and salads are all on offer from Nepal-born chef Upendra Thapaliya, in addition to traditional dishes like butter chicken and biryani. Diners can also customize their meals by choosing a base (greens, naan or rice), protein (lamb, chicken, paneer and tofu), curries and chutneys.

Spice 6 Modern Indian also offers a selection of dosa (crispy rice pancakes) and papri chaat, a popular North Indian street food of crispy dough wafers topped with chickpeas, potatoes, yogurt and chutney.

With a 4.5-star rating out of 13 reviews on Yelp so far, Spice 6 Modern Indian seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Rob K., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 8, said, "Great addition of a fast-casual restaurant in our neighborhood. Good portion and quality food for the right price point. I'll be a returning customer!"

“Stepping back, the thing that probably strikes you the most is the fragrance of the spices," Yelper Sean G. added. "It tastes more like food that was cooked by someone who cares about food than some places of a similar style."

And Max S. said, "I tried Spice 6 tonight and was totally impressed. The food was delicious (especially the naan, which was huge). I had a rice bowl with chicken and paneer and it was flavorful and just the right amount of spice."
