Sugar fans, take heed: there's a new spot in town to get your fix. Located at 901 Pecan Ave. in Elizabeth, the new addition is called Villani's Bakery.
Villani's Bakery is a New York Italian-style bakery offering pastries, cakes, coffee and more. The house specialties include haystacks, a pastry made with layers of flakey handmade pastry dough filled with fresh fruit compote or sweet cream cheese; sfingi, a traditional Italian pastry filled with sweetened ricotta cream and dusted with powdered sugar; and lobster tails, crunchy shells filled with ice cream.
Villani's Bakery's current Yelp rating of five stars out of 32 reviews indicates positive attention from users.
Yelper Mark K. wrote, "This place is awesome. The macarons are perfect and varied (love the key lime and mint chocolate chip especially), the muffin is basically perfect. The tiramisu is cocoa mascarpone cream deliciousness."
