A new Spanish-style café specializing in churros has opened for business in Queens. The fresh addition to Ridgewood, called Café Esencia, is located at 68-38 Forest Ave, Storefront D, and also serves fair-trade coffee drinks and sandwiches.

The churros on offer at Café Esencia are traditional Andalusían sourdough churros called porras, according to the business website. They can be sweetened to taste and come with one of a variety of chocolate dipping sauces.

In addition, the café offers sandwiches like the Spanish ham on tumaca (tomato toast), tea drinks like the chai, rose and matcha lattes, and espresso drinks like the cortado.

With a five-start rating out of just two reviews on Yelp thus far, the fledgling business is off to a strong start.

Tonya J., who was the first Yelper to review the new spot on May 25, said, "Sunny, elegant, warm and friendly boutique café ... A must try is Esencia's freshly battered and perfectly fried churros, lightly sweetened and dipped in their signature melted milk chocolate sauce to make for a lovely sweet ending."

"Tasty fresh churros, especially when combined with the dark almond dipping chocolate!" Erik H. concurred. "Paired really well with the equally delicious cortado."

Head on over to check it out: Café Esencia is open from 7 a.m.–4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 8 a.m.–4 p.m. on weekends. (It's closed on Monday.)
