If you've got Mexican food on the brain, a recent opening is need-to-know. Burro Bar has debuted at 1357 Washington St. in South End.
From the same team behind The Painted Burro in Somerville, Burro Bar is a neighborhood Mexican kitchen with more than 100 select types of tequila, the website notes.
Chef Joe Cassinelli has drawn inspiration from regions throughout Mexico to craft a variety of creative dishes. A few of the inventive offerings: Guajillo Lamb Barbacoa Tamal, combining fresh corn masa, braised lamb, poblano strips, goat cheese, three cheeses and ranchero sauce; Charred Octopus, with toasted almond mole, yellow raisins and roasted grapes; and Street Cart Chicken, half of a roaster with achiote-citrus marinade, kale, fried plantains, creamy poblano rice and tamarind butter. There's also tacos, ceviche, quesos fundidos and more. The full menu can be found here.
With a 3.5-star rating out of 12 reviews on Yelp so far, Burro Bar South End is getting solid feedback from clientele.
Frank S., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on May 14, said, "I felt that the atmosphere and ambiance was very enjoyable, the restaurant was busy but not too loud, and the service and drinks were both great."
And Bill C. said, "Margaritas are excellent. They don't use that sugary pre-made mix, plus you can choose from dozens of good tequilas, including a bunch of reposadas and anejos. Good stuff. The food is all great."
