Craving bagels? You're in luck: a new business has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Black Sheep Bagel Cafe, the new addition is located at 56 John F. Kennedy St. in Harvard Square.
This self-described "maaa and paaa" shop has an ovine theme and a big selection of housemade bagels, in flavors both old-school (everything, sesame, pumpernickel) and quirky (French toast, Cajun spice, gluten-free).
The menu of schmears includes a number of cream cheeses (including scallion, lox and chipotle) and some more exotic options like ricotta, pesto and cinnamon honey butter.
Black Sheep also offers a few toasts, including an avocado toast and a ricotta toast with strawberries, and a full selection of coffee and espresso drinks.
The bagel cafe has garnered rave reviews thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp.
Sam N., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 16, said, "What a gem! Delicious food (I loved the pumpernickel bagel with lox cream cheese) and coffee. The staff were super nice and the space was really cool — cozy, with great music playing."
Yelper Becki W. added, “I am glad to finally find a bagel in Harvard Square other than Dunkin, Starbucks, or Peet's. They have some good bagel sandwiches and a lot of different cream cheeses and spreads."
And D M. said, "Harvard Square desperately needed a bagel place so badly that this place automatically gets a few stars just for existing. It turns out the bagels are pretty good, too."
Interested? Stop by to welcome the new business to the neighborhood. Black Sheep Bagel Cafe is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.
