A new spot for Chinese-style buns and bubble tea has opened its doors in the neighborhood. The new arrival to the International District, called Bao House, is located at 514 S. King St.
Taking over for the recently closed A Piece of Cake, Bao House specializes in Asian snacks and tea drinks. The menu centers around bao, fluffy Chinese buns stuffed with chicken, pork or roasted duck. There are also some fried items, like egg rolls, onion rings and crispy popcorn chicken.
On the drink side, Bao House offers an array of milk teas in flavors like jasmine, Thai and taro. Smoothie and shaved ice options include strawberry, mango and passionfruit. Boba or jelly can be added to any drink for an additional charge.
With a 4.5-star rating out of six reviews on Yelp so far, Bao House seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
Chan L., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on June 16, said, "Walked by and saw their sign on the sidewalk. It looked interesting, because it's a new milk tea joint. Tried their signature milk tea. Thought the drink was strong in tea flavor. They also serve snacks and bao. I would definitely come back next time to try their other food items."
Yelper Wendy K. added, “I went with the duck. The bao was actually bigger than I thought I was going to get; I thought it would be like the tiny ones you get in a restaurant with Peking duck. Bao is nice and soft, though the duck is a little hard to eat because of the skin not being crispy and on the duck still."
And Vicky P. said, "The signature milk tea and popcorn chicken are tasty. I like the texture of this chicken compared to Oasis, it's not too fried. I want to try one of the baos next time."
Head on over to check it out: Bao House is open from 11 a.m.–9 p.m. daily.
